The CHM26 is the predecessor of the CHM86 and sits outside the CHM8X platform, but it is in production and fully supported. It reaches 1 TB against the same standards, and on some installations it is the better choice. It runs on a 24 to 110 V DC supply, so it does not need PoE, and it has on-board processing. Where the vehicle cannot deliver PoE to the memory, or where a wide-range DC supply is what the installation has, the CHM26 is the shorter retrofit. Where Ethernet with PoE is available, the CHM86 does the same job at about a third of the weight.
The CHM26 adds IEEE and FRA crash hardened memory to a new or an existing system with minimal modification. It is applied to IEEE Std 1482.1-2013 part 4.6 and FRA 49 CFR Part 229, Appendix D, Section C, Option A, and the housing carries the Certified DOT Crashworthy marking.
The unit connects over 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet, with a 24 to 110 V DC wide range power supply and a web based service interface, so it can sit behind a video and voice recorder or a monitoring system. On-board processing capability means it does more than present a volume.
