Building the Future

Obsolescence Management at DEUTA

DEUTA - Obsoleszenz

Short innovation cycles, long vehicle lifespans

The innovation cycles for technical components in rail transport are becoming ever shorter – in some cases, they are now less than five years. At the same time, rail vehicles remain in service for an average of 25 years or more. Replacing the entire fleet is therefore not an option when new technologies need to be integrated.

DEUTA addresses this challenge with a systematic obsolescence management strategy – ensuring maximum availability, cost-effectiveness and future-proofing.

Availability throughout the entire lifecycle

DEUTA develops and operates its own obsolescence management system, which ensures the long-term compatibility of new products with existing system environments.

The result: sustainable solutions, reduced lifecycle costs and long-term investment security.

A proven example is the DEUTA Multifunction Terminals (MFT), which are renowned worldwide for their exceptionally long service life. We take successor concepts for critical components into account as early as the design phase in order to consistently prevent obsolescence.

"Form-Fit-Function”-compatible vehicle displays

Thanks to its many years of in-house development and manufacturing of boards, DEUTA possesses in-depth expertise in replacing discontinued displays with form-fit-function-compatible alternatives and integrating them seamlessly into the long-term planning of the MFT platform.

In doing so, our engineers adhere to strict obsolescence guidelines based on the structural equivalence of the platforms. This effectively extends the service life of the displays – whilst maintaining functionality and ensuring high future-proofing.

The Future Built-in

  • Optimised manufacturing processes thanks to perfect board compatibility
  • Shorter cycle times and greater cost-effectiveness
  • Reduced lifecycle costs
  • Long-term availability of spare parts
  • Modern board technology whilst largely retaining the
    look and feel

High level of planning and investment certainty

DEUTA is constantly optimising its obsolescence management. A key element of this is its membership of the Components Obsolescence Group Germany (COG).
Through consolidated procurement processes, coordinated migration strategies and extended series production, our customers benefit from:

  • future-proof products and systems
  • greater planning and investment certainty
  • long-term technical availability
