Strategic Safety Management in the Rail Sector
As early as the beginning of the 2010s, DEUTA set the implementation of a safety management system in the railway sector as a strategic objective. Staff in the development department were trained as certified safety managers. At the same time, the Safety Management Group was established, which was later integrated into the RAMS & Lifecycle Management division. Staff certification is regularly renewed through refresher training courses.

Our Safety Managers ensure that all necessary measures and methods for achieving functional safety are adhered to. They oversee the entire development process – from the preparation of documentation and design reviews right through to product launch. Drawing on their specialist knowledge, they ensure that both hardware and software comply with standards, reflect the current state of the art and meet the required safety integrity level (SIL).
Support, risk analysis and documentation
DEUTA can assist with communication with the system assessor on request. Our customers benefit from our experience and precision – saving both time and money. We offer comprehensive support for SIL certification of speed measurement systems, including:
- Risk analyses and determination of the required Safety Integrity Level (SIL) for various safety functions, e.g.: safe speed determination, safety drive control (SiFa), standstill detection, cold movement detection, rollback protection, speed monitoring, transmission of the safe speed to other systems in the vehicle, analogue speed display
- System designs using proven or newly developed DEUTA components, depending on the required SIL of the safety functions
- Integration tests and preparation of SIL documentation in preparation for the expert assessment
- Management of obsolescence processes, including adjustments resulting from expert assessments or recertification
