DEUTA Doppler radar sensors

Speed without the influence of wheel slip and skidding!

Precision in speed, displacement and position measurement

DEUTA radar sensors utilise the Doppler radar principle based on microwaves to measure speed and distance without contact, regardless of skidding or spinning. The integrated digital signal processor (DSP) employs sophisticated algorithms to ensure high accuracy and reliability without the need for an additional evaluation unit.

Special two-channel algorithms reduce the calibration shift effect, thereby offering high accuracy – even on varying road surfaces. In difficult winter conditions, the integrated protective cover and a redundancy concept, based on Doppler signal amplitudes and taking spectral evaluation into account, ensure high availability.

DRS05/# dual-channel Doppler radar sensor

The DRS05/# dual-channel Doppler radar sensor uses specialised dual-beam algorithms to analyse the Doppler signals. These are optimised for high accuracy at speeds of up to 600 km/h. The data is transmitted in data packets via an RS485 serial interface. The protocol is customised for each customer and contains information on the evaluation status of the Doppler signals. Parameters derived from speed, such as distance and acceleration, are provided there.

For maximum safety, the DRS05/# transmits information on the operating mode and status via the serial interface, in addition to speed, distance, direction of travel and acceleration.

Robust design for a long service life

The integrated protective cover on the DRS05/#S1 housing increases service life in the event of stone chips and improves reliability in winter conditions. This is the recommended solution for high-speed trains equipped with ETCS/ERTMS systems.

Thanks to microwave technology, the radar sensor is less susceptible to contamination than optical sensors and is therefore easy to maintain.

DEUTA SmaRT App

The mounting position of the radar sensors is agreed in consultation with our customers and optimised during an integration phase. The horizontal alignment of the mounting location must be ensured, as the angle to the horizontal in the direction of movement relative to a reference surface on the radar sensor directly influences the speed measurement. Our customers use a so-called inclinometer to calibrate the angle of inclination.

With the SmaRT App, DEUTA has developed a completely new inclinometer technology. This handy smartphone app guides the user through the measurement process. The SmaRT App manages the calibration factors, the different vehicles and mounting positions.

RTD-10 DEUTA Radar Tester

The RTD-10 tests the performance characteristics of DEUTA Doppler radar sensors regardless of weather conditions and free from external influences. It can perform tests on both DRS05 sensors with standard housings and DRS05S1 sensors with integrated protective covers. Once the test is complete, the test bench automatically generates the test result and produces a test report.

Component testing in the workshop
The RTD-10 radar testers are an important part of quality assurance. They are used for functional tests during and after maintenance or servicing.

RTD-10 Radar Tester for railway operators and maintenance providers

  • Functional testing of spare parts prior to installation in the vehicle
  • Inspection of stock components (upon receipt and dispatch)
  • Fault diagnosis of components in laboratory environments and maintenance workshops

The wide-range 24V–110V power supply, the wide measurement range up to 600 km/h and the wide variety of output protocols allow for easy integration into customers’ systems. In particular, the DRS05/1S1 housing variant, a housing with an integrated protective cover, has proven its worth in many projects.
